Where are directed?

Too often when talking with business owners who are satisfied with their results, I find that they have not established goals much much less created a specific plan on how to achieve.

While talking with an owner recently, she has shared that it is not really set annual objectives, it makes just as much work because it can reach to "I hope that" the same level of success or more each year. When business is slow, it just works more hours and spends more time to reach out to its network to try to generate business. And oh, indeed, in this same conversation she mentions that she wanted to really less stress and get a better handle on time so that she could have more of it for fun with his spouse, parents, and friends. This is not a not familiar conversation and it is not the only one in its struggles.

All this sound familiar that you? If this is not the case, go ahead and stop reading now. But, if you are tired to work hard and harder and want to reduce some of your fighting, keep reading!

Many years ago U.S. educator and writer, Laurence j. Peter made a simple and profound statement that is still true today: "If you do not know where you are, you probably eventually otherwise!" Define where you want to really be, or devilishly close to her, requires only a few simple steps:

(1) Lay your Vision! -Annex some quiet time for yourself simply to sit for 30 to 60 minutes and write it is you really want to be in the 12 to 36 months. It is important to have a clear idea of what specifically will look like and why it is important to you.

(2) Create a regular reminder of what looks like your vision. There are several ways to do so, but this year my clients and I created advice of vision (it's mine). We met one evening and share our vision and our vision with the other Councils. Number of clients involved, said publicly share their visions made feel real and that he has created a sense of urgency and focus to move to achieve. It was such an inspiring evening to see where each person is directed.

(3) Identify annual objectives. Examine your greater vision and withdraw from the market the things that you will do this year that you will move forward in the direction of your vision. Many of my clients found mind mapping to be an excellent way to begin this process. Don't forget to SMART for the year objectives.

(4) Create a plan written to get there. It is also an important and often overlooked step. Have a specific plan will help you maintain focus and fight overwhelm feelings. For each objective, chunk in the top ten things that need to be completed to achieve this goal. Each of these ten things decompose into giving steps monthly, weekly and daily (with due dates) and you have a solid plan where you want to be to get! I have several tools on my website, you can use to capture of your plan.

(5) Review progress & change your monthly plan. Schedule time at the end of each month (or early) to your plan and check what is completed. I believe in celebrating each achievement, so small they are! It helps to give a boost and increases confidence. Don't worry if you get it is not all. Use what has worked to help inform you of what is realistic to finish next month and adjust your plans accordingly. Remember, progress is more important than perfection!
