Recently I watched an episode of the new view "Addicted to food," which premiered at the Oprah Winfrey network. The miniseries has a drug addiction treatment centre called shades of hope's famous. The founder and CEO, Tennie McCarty, has designed a programme 42-day inpatient addiction to food combines the12-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with some rather unorthodox methods. Therefore my words, conventional game yet unorthodox! In General, ninety-five percent of all drug rehabilitation programmes employ 12-to-step and cognitive Psychotherapy as a primary method. Thus, we arrive at the conventional aspect. I'll cover the unorthodox, outlining several cases, taken directly from the show itself. As for the absurd, by the Albert Einstein as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." And, since the traditional treatment models fail more than ninety percent of the time, I rest my case, conventional. So, Let's move on to unorthodox absurdity, must we?
During episode 12 April 2011, "Addicted to food", emphasis on eight participants. However, in an attempt to summarize my point, I would like to concentrate on the following two:
Robby, fifty years musician, who is suffering from compulsive overeating and diabetes, has begun to experience undertaken in the lower limbs. At the beginning of the projection, Robby expressed concern about the possibility of dosing for spreading his hands, that would hinder his ability to play guitar.
As a drug addiction freedom coach, have encountered many cases that reflect the status of Robby. Thus, the behavior of the standard was not at all shocking. On the other hand, Ms. McCarty method employed to correct that behavior! I don't know Robby, but personally, in my opinion, this is obviously suffering from self-esteem, personal power, and identity issues. And, apparently, uses food as an instrument for dealing with the stress. In addition, suffers from diabetes, which is generally an emotional and energetic problem that is directly linked to the liability. This is usually a product either suppressed with many responsibilities, or prevented from taking responsibility. Whether the former or later, the final results are usually emotional overload and eventually decrease in insulin production. In addition to using food as a tool for tackling a subcomponent Subconscious, there is generally a person which causes their bodies to plan for storage of Body weight, or add-on. I call these Subliminal "Food addiction." in this case, it is perfectly feasible that Robby uses obesity as a means of avoiding responsibility, if not converge at all the facts and it is difficult to be certain. However, there are always two items with addiction to food.
1. Use food as a tool or solution to manage emotional distress, suppress feelings of anxiety, depression or counteracting peace.
2. Using food subconsciously obesity drive in an attempt to withdraw socially, find security, to increase confidence, avoiding liability or seek revenge.
Ok! Now, let's go the unorthodox! Staff in shades of hope decided to formulate an approach that was seized after fear of Robby development undertaken on hands and finally ended his career as a musician. Therefore, the guitar, which has forced him to wear gloves and hung a sign around his neck that said "I can only share my feelings." my dinner Plate? Abhorrence of these draconian methods and were surprised by the staff of the lack of knowledge about human behavior and self-esteem. Seriously, I think Robby is to strengthen the self-esteem by walking around wearing gloves and a symbol of? Come On!
Amy, a thirty-five years of compulsive overeater, sexual abuse by his step-father and verbally abused by her mother. As a result, Amy utilizes food to manage the emotional discomfort and guilt. On the basis of the testimony, Amy blames herself for allowing sexual abuse to continue. In my opinion, the subitem, or "food addiction Factor" in this case may be. Often, addicted children who suffer from sexual abuse using obesity themselves useful for a firewall. Once again, I'm not privy to all the facts, but I do not think social withdrawal is an issue because, surprisingly. Amy seems very outgoing and expressive. This is quite unusual addictive behaviour and cases of sexual abuse. Personally, my impressions of Amy open expression as a positive attribute. Unfortunately, Ms. McCarty has not done so. Based on the analysis, a plan concocted viewed accidentally open expression of Amy as a problem and nothing more than a diversion from the emphasis on the underlying emotional issues. Consequently, the period of silence from the outlaws to speak. If Amy has used open expression as a diversion, the solution is not to require this, but to redirect. For Pete's sake! Are you serious? Oh, Amy needs to speak! I must plainly and clearly, calmly and confidently telling her mother what he thinks about the dismissal of step-dad's sexual abuse. You need to speak plainly and clearly about the sexual abuse, period! And, if the offender does not have departed from this level of existence, this should be a prison!
In my opinion, Ms. McCarty is not only unorthodox methods, but is counterproductive, draconian, brutal and absurd, Yes! Realistically, you can't force anyone to do anything. Saying, "we're going to take the disease and give the right on their face," is wrong and completely ridiculous! First, drug addiction is a disease! Secondly, the conventional recovery make that mistake all the time with. Even if force, force or manipulation by someone, probably, will revert or drag their behavior to another force. At the end of the day, people should the decision for recovery exclusively from their own free will. Of course, there are methods that can be used for the encouragement of their choice. However, this is a discussion for another day. Bottom line, when recovery is selected, the liberation and empowerment is the right remedies, not shame, guilt, manipulation or brutality!
